Spring Picnic

Two Saturdays past we had a wonderful picnic in the hills. Growing up on the far north coast I haven't seen much of Victoria, I was astonished by the picturesque green rolling hills and fresh mountain air. I'm not much of a city slicker and spent most of the day dreaming of what life would be like residing in such a beautiful dwelling.

Josie has become a vegan baking queen of sorts and made the most delicious vegan cupcakes, so amazing! The following week I sampled her vegan carrot cake which equally blew me away. I'm going to need to get some baking lessons of her post haste!

Photograph by Katherine!

I'm hoping this Spring will be filled to the brim with plenty more picnics and day trips spent with the finest of company. If you'd like to see some more snaps from this wonderful day you can visit Josie's blog here!

Love Birds

A few months back I had to absolute pleasure of making a pair of wedding dresses for Melbourne based artist Belinda Suzette. She chose the most beautiful contrasting quilting cottons for me to work with and as soon as we had a fitting I knew the dresses were perfect for her!

The wedding had a bush dance themed and looked like an absolute blast! Bails of hay, bunting, kiddies dressed as cowboys and a folk band complete with washboard player and jug blower.

This project meant so much to me as I spent time with both Belinda and her now husband Patrick and they were such beautiful people. Heres to the happy couple!

By the way, do yourself a favour and check out Belinda's website, she is one talented lady!

Glimpses of Life

I recently got a few rolls of film developed and was delighted to relive some of my favourite memories from the past few months. Velveteen. My very favourite pug dog. My beautiful family. Daffodils and cheeky bathroom snaps.

Dappled Sunlight

Melbourne is so blooming beautiful lately, it's awfully hard to stay indoors.

Today we took a stroll to the St Kilda Botanical Gardens and on the way home popped into the Veg Out communal gardens. It is such a beautiful concept and I love how everybody personalises their little plots of land. There are also chickens, rabbits and birds which fills me with joy. Not to mention the cactus patch and weary folk drinking beer after a long afternoon of gardening... heck this place has it all!

I also wanted to share these handsome brown Italian leather shoes I picked up at Savers for a song, they are so amazingly comfortable and remind me of shoes from the 1920s and 30s (aka dream shoes)

Deep Sleep

Well after a good year of a certain costume being stuffed in a dark corner and only being used now and then when I have the urge to use chat roulette.. I must say I'm very chuffed to see my weasel costume come to life in this film clip for "Deep Sleep" by Rex Gibson

I've watched this a bunch of times and still can't control my giggles. How something so expressionless manages to convey so much emotion i'll never know...

Melbourne in the Springtime

Yesterday was the most perfect Spring day so the Mr and I went for a long bicycle ride down by the ocean. I was so excited by this glimpse of summer that I came home and made a sundress out of the softest lightweight floral. I'll be wearing it today when I go to a Tulip Festival with Josie, i'll make sure to grab some snaps!

One of my favourite things about Melbourne is the biking culture. I ride my bicycle to uni everyday and although I was really reluctant to ride on the road at first I have actually found car drivers to be really thoughtful! There are also bike lanes on most main roads as well as some amazing bike paths that follow the seaside all the way along the coastline.

I'm starting to get itchy feet for the Summertime. I'm dreaming of extra long bicycle rides, sewing many more sundresses, taking lots of film photography, lounging about in the sunshine and sipping spiked punch whilst watching the sunset into the ocean....

What excites you most about Summer?

To Market, To Market

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of holding a stall at the North Melbourne Market with Josie of Frances Baker. We had a right old time chatting, watching catwalk shows and even witnesses a roller derby performance... pretty sure i've found my life calling! I hadn't done a market in over a year and I loved having the opportunity to talk to lovely ladies face to face. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for summer market opportunities. Warm weather and markets go hand in hand after all. I've uploaded a bunch of new dresses into my etsy store, please take a peek!

Here are some of my very favourite Frances Baker Dresses! Made with vintage fabrics and strictly one or two of a kind, these darlings are so beautifully made and will last for many years to come.

The Bluest Eyes in Texas

One of a kind. Made with a beautiful baby blue cotton with subtle stripes. Size 10 available now!

This dress reminds me of Nancy Sinatra, children's pony rides and the scene in "Boys Don't Cry" when Chloe Sevigny does an amazing karaoke rendition of The Bluest Eyes in Texas
