Picnic at Hanging Rock

Photographs by Mont Clare

To celebrate my sweethearts 24th year we took a road trip to Hanging Rock. I'm so glad we made the trip before leaving Melbourne as it was so incredibly beautiful. We hauled a picnic up to the summit and Oli coerced me into some pretty serious rock climbing in my stocking feet. It was well worth it in the end as we perched on the very highest rock and looked out over the amazing countryside whilst indulging in one of the tastiest picnics i've had to date.

One of my favourite parts of the day was all the fellow hikers that would chortle "Don't get lost...." as they walked past. It was so cheesy but in the best kind of way. Despite my somewhat inappropriate hiking attire I really enjoy being out in nature and cannot wait to visit some wonderful national parks in the US... in only one months time (wow) If anyone has any recommendations please do share.

We were joined in the evening by our darling friend Dette for a super tasty Japanese feast, but thats a story for another day.

Happy Birthday Oli, heres to many more together <3

  3. Oh man, these photos are amazing! Too beautiful! The one of you looking up at the camera is my favourite, the composition is lovely. I'm jealous that you get to emulate one of my favourite movies. There is a big scary house just down the road from me that looks a lot like Appleyard, I'm pretty obsessed with it.

  5. How lucky! I would probably get lost there and end up like the characters in the film. My tips for U.S. travel would be to see Colorado in the summer. It is so gorgeous.

  7. Whoa, what a cool place!!! I'd love to go there. There are some pretty cool state parks in the U.S. I've only ever been on the east coast. The Smokey Mountains in Tennessee are beautiful!

  8. Ahhh, I'm jealous of your hike! As for national parks in the US, it depends on which regions you're going to. For the west, definitely Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Sequoia. Mesa Verde and Zion are also wonderful. Really, anywhere in the Southwest is gorgeous.
