After four months of eating dollar pizza and slaving away in the big smoke, Oli and I have decided its high time to hit the road again. This city has stolen a little piece of my heart, but nothing quite beats living on the road. Waking up in the middle of dense forest or to the sound of waves lapping up against the shore is the life for me. Our sweet ride this time around may not be as handsome as Woody but is equally as hilarious.

We'll be saying our goodbyes to the Big Apple at the end of the year and spending New Years Eve in Miami, which will hopefully be every bit as tacky as I imagine. We will then make our way up to the Deep South and across to Los Angeles via Joshua Tree, San Francisco and Big Sur which has to be my very favourite spot in the USA. We might even stop over in Roswell if I'm not too spooked, I blame the X-Files for this heightened Extraterrestrial fear.

If anyone has any must see spots in the Deep South and California or anywhere inbetween, please don't be stranger!

  1. You guys rock!!! (And so does the psycheldelic van ;D)
I'm so glad that I had the luck to meet you during your New York stay, and hope your trip will take you to Europe some day. You know you'll always have a place to stay here in old Turin!
A big hug to you both and good luck ^_^

  2. Here are my southern hot spots that I definitely recommend visiting (en route from Miami) - Savannah, Georgia & Charleston, South Carolina. They are both historically charming towns with amazing food and moss covered trees. If you're going to go into TN, I recommend the Smokey Mountains, Minister's Treehouse, Nashville, and of course Memphis (not necessarily close to Nashville), where you'll find Stax Records, Graceland, Sun Records, Beale St. How exciting your life is!

  6. You guys are such a huge inspiration for me. I'm from New Zealand and I'm also a vintage lover who wants to travel across America the way you guys have. Would you maybe consider doing a post in the style of a Guide with tips and such for a journey like this? Because I have no idea how to begin. Like, how did you aquire a car, tips on sleeping rough, food, best spots to go to, how you didn't get lost in such a foreign country... etc? Anyway, I can't wait to see the photos from your new adventure!!!

  8. Your life is so... glamourous is the best world I can think of but doesn't quite fit. AMazing photography (no surprise there :D ) My parents went to Wyoming (and other places in the US) for the 25th anniversary and found the location of some of Ansel Adams' works. The landscape there is unreal!

  11. Nothing beats Big Sur, but if you pass through L.A. make a stop at the Watts Towers.

    Photos don't do justice.

There is also Salvation Mountain in Cali. Another outsider architectural construction to add wonder to your travels.

I spent nearly a year on the road myself and had such heart pangs when it came to an end. Please don't mind as I live vicariously through your travels! - Lucy

  12. I think you'll like Yosemite National Park, especially the Ahwahnee Hotel given your appreciation of The Shining. You can even stay at cheaper lodgings in the Village and just visit the Ahwahnee since most of the hotel is open to the public.

You're such an adventurer couple, so NYC wouldn't be your exact cup of tea:)

  14. Oh nooooooo! I mean, I think this is awesome and if I had a choice I would totally live on the road, but I'm so sad to hear that you're leaving so soon! You will be dearly missed by all of us including Tres Hermanos. Never forget the tacos! xo

  15. these photos are amazing and i am speechless over that van! you guys are going to have so much fun! if you make it to east tennessee then gatlinburg/pigeon forge is as incredibly tacky as it can get— i definitely recommend it (but it's also in the smokies so it's just as wonderful, too). if you find yourself in need of a hot shower or cozy couch in the middle tennessee/nashville area then my home is always welcome to travelers. be safe— i can't wait to follow the adventure.

  19. Not sure if I'm too late or not, but if you are looking for somewhere to go in Louisiana, I highly recommend Lafayette. There is a great hostel/music venue called the Blue Moon that usually has a local Cajun band playing and the dance floor is always packed with dancers. Right now is crawfish season too, so you really MUST try some! If you find yourself there on Feb. 12 (Mardi Gras day!), the Courir de Mardi Gras is something not many people seem to know about, but it is a BLAST! It's not at all like the tacky New Orleans Mardi Gras. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courir_de_Mardi_Gras
There is also a beautiful swamp nearby called Lake Martin in Breaux Bridge that is one of my favorite places ever!
